TikTok becomes most downloaded app during lockdown in India

New Delhi : TikTok was the most downloaded social media app in India amid the lockdown. It surpassed majors like WhatsApp and Facebook one more time in the total number of downloads, according to App Annie.

According to an Economic Times report, the total number of application downloads have increased by around 20 percent in the lockdown period. This data is from March 22 onwards just before the 21-day lockdown was announced on March 24. This led to over 49 million downloads on the App Store and Google Play Store combined.

TikTok was followed by WhatsApp, Facebook and Helo which is also owned by TikTok’s parent company ByteDance. Globally, WhatsApp is seeing the highest surge in usage of 40% according to a report by Kantar.

App Annie also revealed that there was a significant increase in the total number of downloads in news applications, video conferencing and entertainment apps. Interestingly, dating applications like Tinder and Bumble did not show any major change in the figures.
