Delhi : Earlier this year, it was reported that WhatsApp was working on adding usernames to the service. A feature that would let users customise their profile username was detected in the Android beta version of the well-known messaging app. A new feature that will enable users to search for other users on the app by their username is currently being developed for the Meta-owned app. According to reports, the feature is being worked on for an upcoming Android app upgrade.

The messaging software WhatsApp is reportedly improving its username feature so that users may search for other users on the app by looking up their username, according to feature tracker WABetaInfo.

Latest update to talk with stranger on Whatsapp

Comparable to Telegram's username search function, this latest WhatsApp change may enable users to talk to strangers without disclosing their phone number.

The feature will be made available via the Google Play Beta Programme on WhatsApp version 2.23.25.19. It also featured an app snapshot, showing the search bar where users may look up other users by name, username, or phone number. With this function, users would no longer have to provide their phone number in order to initiate a new discussion on WhatsApp, increasing the privacy of conversations. Additionally, users have the option to create a unique username, modify it, or do away with it completely.

Feature updated to look up users by username

A later version will include the capability to look up users by username. There are currently no more details available regarding the feature or its release.

It was also reported last month that WhatsApp was developing channel usernames, which would let subscribers type the username to access the channel. The app was also observed developing a new username selector on the iOS 2.23.20.71 WhatsApp beta in October. The study states that creating a unique username is optional and that it can contain any combination of letters, numbers, and special characters.

New Secret Code function to improve messaging app privacy

Features to improve messaging app privacy have been developed by WhatsApp. It just released a new Secret Code function for locked chats that lets users conceal private conversations behind a code. Certain conversations are already protected by locked chats, which work by scanning the user's face or fingerprint, or by using the device's PIN or passcode.
