North Carolina : Two people have reportedly been killed and four have been injured in a shooting at the North Carolina University campus at Charlotte. Gunshots were heard at around 5.45 PM (local time) near the University’s Kennedy Hall administrative building.

As reported by the local media, the suspect – a student – has been arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in the shooting which occurred on the last day of the academic year at the University. The final exams were scheduled for next week.

“Run, Hide, Fight. Secure yourself immediately,” the University said on Twitter shortly before 6 PM. The University took to its official website later and said the campus was on lockdown and that students and staff should “remain in a safe location.”

“We are in shock to learn of an active shooter situation on the campus of UNC Charlotte. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives, those injured, the entire UNCC community and the courageous first responders who sprang into action to help others,” said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles.

A video was also seen on the social media where students can be seen evacuating the campus buildings with their hands raised as police officers ran past them toward the scene of the shooting.
