New Delhi : Former US President Donald Trump escaped an assassination bid during an election campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. As per local media reports, the assailant has been identified as a 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who shot fired multiple shots from an elevated position on a manufacturing plant roof from an approximate distance of 130 yards.

In the attempted attack, Donald Trump was injured while delivering a speech when multiple shots were heard at approximately 6:15 p.m. ET. Later, it was cleared that he was shot on his ear.

Trump grabbed his right ear and dropped to the ground as Secret Service agents told him to get down and rushed to the stage, protecting the former president while several more gunshots could be heard.

It has been reported that after 45 seconds of the attack, the security people were heard saying that the shooter is down. Afterwards, Mr Trump was shifted to the hospital in a nearby SUV.

One of the attendees was killed during the attack and other two were injured. All the victims are male.

The US President Joe Biden condemned the shooting and said it was "sick".

The shooting incident is being investigated as a bid to assassinate the former US President Mr. Donald Trump who is set to file his nominations in the upcoming week.

Trump posted on Truth Social Saturday evening, describing the shooting and thanking the Secret Service and law enforcement for their response.

"I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!" Trump wrote.
