China vulnerable, may face second wave of coronavirus soon

Beijing : A top medical advisor of China has issued a warning that the country may face second wave of coronavirus infections soon due to lack of immunity among the citizens.

Doctor Zhong Nanshan, senior medical advisor of the Chinese government on Saturday was quoted in an exclusive CNN report as saying: "The majority of ... Chinese at the moment are still susceptible to the Covid-19 infection, because (of) a lack of immunity."

"We are facing (a) big challenge, it's not better than the foreign countries I think at the moment."

The health expert is also known as SARS hero as he battled strongly against the severe acute respiratory syndrome epidemic in 2003.

Interestingly, he was the doctor who confirmed in January that coronavirus infection can be transmitted among the humans.

"At the very beginning they kept silent, and then I said probably we have (a larger) number of people being infected," Zhong said. "I didn't believe that result, so I (kept) asking and then, you have to give me the real number."

In China, the coronavirus infection count stands at 82,000 and 4,633 deaths till date.
