Washington : President Donald Trump has announced a ban on the famous social media application TikTok as the American authorities have raised concerns that the service could be a tool for Chinese intelligence.

The US officials and lawmakers have raised concerns that the Chinese application may be using that data for nefarious purposes; however, the company has denied all such allegations, rejecting any links with the Chinese Government.

Earlier, media reports had claimed that Trump wants company to separate its US operations from its Chinese parent firm ByteDance, but the president announced a ban.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump said: "As far as TikTok is concerned, we're banning them from the United States."

He mentioned that he will take an action as soon as Saturday by using emergency economic power or an executive order.

Last month, India had banned the application claiming national security threat from the Chinese app. India had also banned another 58 Chinese applications with TikTok.
