Bhutan : Heavy rains in Bhutan triggered flash floods in the nation and neighbouring areas. Nearly 10 people lost their lives due to flash floods and several houses were covered under muddy water.

In Nepal, 7 people were reported dead and several missing in Sindhupalchok area. Melamchi town was reportedly submerged in a thick layer of mud and water. As per officials, about 200 houses in the town have been partially or completely damaged.

"Our hearts are with the people of Laya today, as we hear about the tragedy that struck a group of cordeycep collectors in the highland," Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering said in a statement.

Helicopters have been deployed in several areas to carry out the rescue operations.

Villagers in Bhutan and neighbouring Nepal go to high meadows every year to collect cordeycep which is believed to have potential health benefits.

The villagers were camping by the side of a small stream between two small hills, The Bhutanese newspaper said.
