'Increased military assistance' on agenda as Ghani lands in India for 2 days

New Delhi : Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday embarked his two day visit to New Delhi to discuss key issues of mutual interest. Increased military assistance remains high on the agenda.

"The upcoming visit will provide an opportunity to continue the close and frequent consultations between the two friendly neighbours, including at the highest level. Such interaction is the hallmark of their strategic partnership and has guided the strengthening of all-round cooperation between the two countries," the Ministry had said in a statement on Saturday.

Highlights:

# Ashraf Ghani will be in India on Wednesday (September 14) and Thursday (September 15) to hold "close consultations" on key issues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

# India is likely to accede to Kabul's demand for increased military assistance.

# India last year had given four Mi-25 attack helicopters to Afghanistan.

# Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be holding a lunch for the Afghan President.

# Ghani is likely to address business community in New Delhi in his two-day visit.
