New Delhi : An incident from an American school has come to light, raising serious question about the safety and security of Indian students studying in there. An Indian-American student was seen getting bullied and choked by one of his classmates.

The boy has been identified as Shaan Pritmani, who was choked and assaulted by a white student for about four minutes. "The incident took place in a suburb of Dallas, Coppell Middle School. Shaan received three days of suspension while the assaulter received one day," wrote North American Association of Indian Students in a tweet.

They also shared a small video clip of the incident where Shaan can be seen getting assaulted for refusing to leave the seat he was sitting on.

"The incident raises concerns about the safety and well being of Indians in schools in the United States as well as the lack of proper support from school administration for situations like these," wrote North American Association of Indian Students in another tweet.

A petition has been started on change.org to get justice against racial crime and abetment. “Shaan’s aggressor in the video is on the wrestling team and can be seen carrying out a very dangerous carotid restraint on Shaan’s neck. This technique restricts blood flow to a person’s brain by compressing the sides of the neck where the carotid arteries are located. Shaan appears to briefly lose consciousness at the end of the neck choke maneuver," stated the petition page.
