ISIS claims responsibility of twin blasts in Iran that killed over 100

Tehran : Islamic State has claimed responsibility for twin blasts that killed over hundred people and wounded several others at a ceremony in Iran. The terrorist group has posted its statement on its affiliate Telegram channel.

The people had gathered at a cemetery to mark fourth death anniversary of one of the senior military commanders, General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed by a US drone in 2020. He was in charge of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to the statement released by Islamic state, two of the IS members had detonated their explosive belts amid the crowd, which had gathered at the cemetery in southeastern Iranian city of Kerman on Wednesday.

According to reports, the first explosion took place at around 3:00 PM in Kerman, which is located 820 km from the Tehran City. The people then tried to move to safety as another bomb detonated 20 minutes later near Saheb al-Zaman Mosque. The government officials have confirmed that most of the deaths occurred during second blast while first blast was to create chaos.

Interestingly, the attacks in Iran come a day after top Hamas leader Saleh al-Aurori was believed to have been killed in an Israeli drone strike in Lebanon.

India has extended its solidarity towards Iran. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: "We are shocked and saddened on the terrible bombings in the Kerman City of Iran. At this difficult time, we express our solidarity with the government and people of Iran."
