South Korea confirms Kim Jong Un 'alive and well'

New Delhi : South Korea downplayed death rumours on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and informed that Kim Jong Un is 'alive and well'.

"Our government position is firm," Moon Chung-in, the top foreign policy adviser to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, told CNN. "Kim Jong Un is alive and well. He has been staying in the Wonsan area since April 13. No suspicious movements have so far been detected."

Several speculations were made on the health of the North Korean leader after he suspiciously disappeared and did not attend one of the important celebrations of his grandfather’s birthday.

Recently, it was reported that Kim Jong Un had undergone heart surgery and he is in a critical situation. Now a US official has reaffirmed the claim but said that the severity is not disclosed as the leader is inaccessible.

It followed a report by Daily NK, an online newspaper based in South Korea that focuses on North Korea, that Kim reportedly received a cardiovascular procedure because of "excessive smoking, obesity, and overwork." It added that the leader is now receiving treatment in a villa in Hyangsan County.

Recently, a North Korean website published satellite image of a train "probably belonging to Kim Jong Un" that has been parked at a railway station serving Kim's luxurious Wonsan compound on the country's eastern coast since at least April 21.

Well, it does not confirm that DPRK leader is at the Wonsan, but lends weight to the fact that he may be present in the area.
