US condemns hate attack on Indian men: Legal authorities to take action

Washington : The US embassy on Friday condemned hate attack on Indian engineer by a former Navy serviceman who mistook them for "Middle Easterners"; legal authorities will take matter to justice, said the embassy.

One more Indian and a non-Indian American were also injured in the incident in Olathe, Kansas State.

Srinivas Kuchibhotla died and Alok Madasani was injured when Adam W. Purinton shot them at a bar after telling them "get out of my country", The Kansas City Star quoted a witness as saying.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj expressed shock over the shooting and condoled the death of Indian engineer.

"I am shocked at the shooting incident in Kansas in which Srinivas Kuchibhotla has been killed. My heartfelt condolences to bereaved family," the minister tweeted.

The other Indian, who was injured in the incident, has been discharged from the hospital.
