New Delhi : Currently, if anyone wants to apply for a US visa, the approximate wait time for him is about 500 days in India. But the US embassy has come up with a new initiative, that is aimed at cutting down the wait time significantly.

The Indians who are seeking B1 and B2 visas, which are meant for business and tourist purposes, will now be allowed to apply their visas at some of the American Embassies settled in different nations to cut down the wait time.

Bangkok is one such destination where Indians will be allowed to apply for B1 or B2 visa and would get the interview scheduled in just 14 days.

The wait time in Bangkok is much lower than the wait time in India’s many cities. For example, Mumbai has a wait time of 638 days, Kolkata has 589 days, Delhi has 596 days and Hyderabad has 609 days.

Taking to Twitter, the US Embassy India said, “Do you have upcoming international travel? If so, you may be able to get a visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your destination. For example, @USEmbassyBKK has opened B1/B2 appointment capacity for Indians who will be in Thailand in the coming months."

The new announcement comes days after the US embassy said that a US visa renewal can now happen through Dropbox.
