Malala Yousafzai: All you need to know about youngest Nobel Prize Winner

New Delhi : Malala Yousafzai is a female activist for the education of the girl child. She is known for her stand in promoting education for females in her native Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan, where the local Taliban had at times banned girls from attending school.

Malala Yousafzai was born in Mingora, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan and currently resides in Birmingham, England, UK.

Taliban's assassination bid

On October 9, 2012, while on a bus in Swat District after taking an exam, Malala and two other women were shot by a Taliban gunman to stop her from promoting education for girls. She was first airlifted to a military hospital, later shifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, UK.

Global fame

After assassination bid her movement sparked and gave her an international outpouring of support. Following her recovery, Yousafzai became a prominent education activist. She also founded the Malala Fund, a non-profit organisation, and in 2013 co-authored I am Malala, an international bestseller.

Nobel Prize Winner

In 2014, Malala was announced to be the co-recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, along with Kailash Satyarthi, for her struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education. At a young age of 17 years, she became the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate.

Pakistan Return
