New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been administered the coronavirus vaccine's first dose on Monday at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

"Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS. Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19. I appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!" he tweeted with a picture of him receiving the shot.

To take the first shot of his coronavirus vaccine, PM Modi arrived at AIIMS early this morning. Interestingly, he was wearing a gamcha from Assam, which is believed to be a symbol of blessing from the women of the state.

He received COVAXIN (Bharat Biotech) from Sister P Niveda, from Puducherry. The second nurse present there was from Kerala.

From today onwards, India will be moving into the coronavirus vaccine phase 2 or world's biggest vaccination programme, under which people with an age of more than 60 years and those above 45 with co-morbidities will be given priority for the vaccine.

In the first phase, 1.43 crore doses of Covishield and Covaxin vaccines were administered to two priority groups: healthcare workers and frontline workers.

Those who want to get the vaccination must enroll themselves on Co-WIN app and check vaccination centres and their availability.
