New Delhi : Total number of active coronavirus cases in India have crossed 1000, out of which over 700 have been registered in just last week. Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi are among the key states which have registered the spike in coronavirus cases in last one week.

Kerala reported 335 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of active cases there to 430. Maharashtra had 153 new cases and now has 209 active cases. Delhi reported 99 new cases, with its active cases rising to 104. This information was shared by the government on the morning of Monday, May 26.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said there's no reason to worry about the recent increase in Covid-19 cases and assured that hospitals are well-prepared.

"We are keeping track of the Covid-19 cases. Our hospitals have all the necessary facilities, and we've also issued an advisory," she told reporters.

Meanwhile, with a noticeable rise in new Covid-19 cases in several cities, two new variants — NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 — have been found in the country, according to recent data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (Insacog), a government agency.

Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) has labeled both LF.7 and NB.1.8 as "Variants Under Monitoring," meaning they are being watched but are not considered dangerous or high-risk for now.

The Union Health Secretary reviewed the situation across the country on Saturday. The Health Ministry stated that most new cases have been reported from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, and that most patients have only mild symptoms and are recovering at home.
