Asia Cup 2023: Babar Azam almost in tears as Sri Lanka head to finals against India

New Delhi : Thursday's Super 4 Asia Cup match in Premadasa, Colombo, witnessed Pakistan losing the game to Sri Lanka and their dream of playing the final of Asia Cup 2023. The intense 42-over contest kept fans on the edge of their seats as Sri Lanka managed to maintain their composure and secure a spot in the Asia Cup final.

The defeat left Pakistan, who entered the game as favorites, heartbroken. Captain Babar Azam was visibly emotional, struggling to hold back tears during the post-match presentation. The pictures from the emotional moment have gone viral on social media with people showing their support for him and the teammates.

During the post-match presentation following the loss, Babar explained their decision-making process and said, "Ultimately, we chose to utilize our top bowlers. This led to my decision to have Shaheen bowl the penultimate over, and we entrusted Zaman Khan with the final over. Sri Lanka displayed excellent cricket throughout the match, outperforming us. Our bowling and fielding fell short of our standards, which contributed to our defeat."

Sri Lanka will now face India in the final game of the Asia Cup 2023 on September 17, 2023 (Sunday).
