New Delhi : Elisabeth Borne has been appointed as France's Prime Minister on Sunday; she became the second woman to hold the position in history and first in last 30 years.

She succeeded Jean Castex, who was set to resign after the reappointment of President Emmanuel Macron following re-election.

Macrone and Borne are likely to announce the full government in coming days.

Before Elisabeth Borne, Edith Cresson was the first woman to become the Prime Minister of France; she ruled the nation in 1991-92.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex resigned Monday in an expected move after the reelection last month of centrist President Emmanuel Macron, who will quickly name a replacement.
