Delhi : Mahindra and Mahindra will release the Mahindra Thar 2WD SUV in India on January 9, 2023. The company has updated its official brochure with pictures of the most recent Thar off-road SUV model in anticipation of the premiere. The SUV will be the more affordable choice type for individuals looking to purchase a Thar. The automaker does not provide 4x4 capabilities with this variant. The business will instead make this SUV available with a diesel and gasoline engine driving the rear wheels.

Online recently, several updated Mahindra Thar 2WD SUV characteristics appeared. It's likely that safety features like the Electronic Brake Locking Differential, ESP with Roll-over Mitigation, Hill Hold, and Hill Descent Control, which are only available on rear-wheel drive vehicles, will be included. 16-inch steel wheels or 18-inch alloy wheels will be available for the car's wheel size.

The two versions of the newest Thar rear-wheel drive SUV that will be available are the AX Opt and LX. A 1.5-liter D117 CRDe diesel engine with a maximum output of 117 horsepower and a maximum torque of 300 Nm will power the vehicle. The engine will only be compatible with a six-speed manual transmission. The petrol variants of the 2.0-liter mStallion 150 TGDi engine will be offered. It has comparable torque to diesel ones and can produce 150 horsepower. Additionally, a six-speed manual or an AT gearbox will be mated to the petrol engine.

The 2018 Thar SUVs will be offered in three new colours: Everest White, Blazing Bronze, and Aquamarine. These colours are offered, along with the other three choices—Red Rage, Napoli Black, and Galaxy Grey.

In Igatpuri, Maharashtra, the 1.5-liter diesel-powered Mahindra Thar was unveiled last month.

Currently, the company is also working on the Thar SUV's five-door variant. The test version of the SUV has a hard top with closed lines, which could be a hint that the Thar could have a sunroof in the future. Along with vehicles like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door and the Force Gurkha 5-door, the revamped Thar is slated to make its premiere at the Auto Expo 2023 in January of next year.
