Delhi : When purchasing a new car, one of the most crucial factors to consider is safety. As this trend among customers continues, automakers have started introducing more safety measures to their vehicles to make them safer and more appealing to purchasers. The government has also encouraged OEMs to make their vehicles safer while informing purchasers about the importance of a safety-equipped vehicle.

While not all cars will have advanced safety features, they must have certain basic ones. The top five safety elements that every car should have are as follows:

Airbags

This is the most crucial safety element that a vehicle must have, as airbags lessen the likelihood of the driver's or passenger's upper body or head colliding with the vehicle's interior during a collision. While an automobile should have dual front airbags, it is best to acquire one with at least six airbags (including side and curtain). It should also be remembered that airbags are intended to act in conjunction with seatbelts.

ABS (Antilock Braking System) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD)

ABS with EBD aids in sudden braking of a vehicle. When the brakes are suddenly applied with great force, the car's wheels lock and it loses control. ABS with EBD protects the wheels from locking and sliding, providing improved control even when braking suddenly.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

This function tracks a car's steering wheel angle as well as each wheel rotation. To regain control in an emergency, ESC applies the brake and balances the engine power. This helps to avoid accidents caused by oversteering or understeering in curves or poor traction on wet roads.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Accurate air pressure in all four tyres of a car is essential for vehicle stability and control. However, the motorist is not always aware when tyre pressure drops. A TPMS system comes into play here, since it sends a warning to the instrument cluster if any of the four tyres has low air pressure.

Blind Spot Monitoring

Blind spots are portions of the road that the motorist cannot see for a variety of reasons. These areas can sometimes be the cause of an accident and must consequently be watched. A blind spot detection system uses sensors to communicate such information to the driver, so improving vehicle and occupant safety.
