Waiting period on Mahindra Thar: Is this a scam? Asks a user on Twitter
New Delhi : Mahindra Thar is among the first choices for people who love to go for an adventure drive; recently, the company launched 4X2 rear-wheel drive version of the off-roader at a special price of under Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Now, those who had booked the SUV in the starting days of the launch are now getting delivery dates for their vehicle in 2024. A Twitter user has raised his objections asking Mr Anand Mahindra to explain the calculations done behind the waiting period.
A Twitter user with the handle name @kane shared the screenshot of an official email he received from Mahindra that mentioned the delivery date for his car as 09/04/2024. As seen in the email, Kanishka has booked LX D MT 2WD HT BS6 variant of the car. In another screenshot of the email, he claimed that the booking was made on Jan 15, 2023, with a commitment to deliver the car within 2-3 months. But now, he has been told to wait for 15 months.
Kanishka also claimed that some of his known people are taking the delivery of the car despite the fact that they did bookings after him. He also called it an scam to generate undue profit on the booking. He wrote on Twitter, "On Average if you have 1 lakh booking and around 10k cancelation. You will earn 2.1 crore. if you keep 90k booking for around 6 months interest earned would be 6.61 crore. that the money earned apart form the profit on the car cost price. if it not a scam then whaf it is ??"
Mahindra however emailed the reply to Kanishka and mentioned that the delay in delivery due to supply chain issue, which is not controlled by the OEM. However, Kanishka demanded an enquiry in the matter as he mentioned that some dealers are delivering the car if accessories are purchased from them.
He again mentioned that he was promised 2-3 months wait time during the time of booking and it was increased to 15 months without any intimation or reason.
