Delhi : An electric vehicle's accident-damaged battery pack cannot be repaired or evaluated in any way. Due to this, insurance firms are now required to write off even cars with low mileage.

According to Matthew Avery, Research Director at Thatcham Research, an organisation that provides risk intelligence for the automobile industry, EVs are not sustainable if users are required to discard the battery following a minor accident. Experts have criticised companies like Tesla for using structural battery packs as having "zero repairability," despite the fact that doing so lowers the cost of producing the vehicle.

EVs only account for a small portion of vehicles on the road, but reports claim that a growing number of low-mileage EVs are being written off due to minor damage.

Furthermore, few automakers are ready to give access to the battery data, despite the fact that several have claimed that their battery packs are repairable. As they lack access to diagnostic information, insurers are forced to write off the entire car because of scratched battery packs even though the cells within are probably unharmed.
