MBA curriculum revised, students to learn Indian ethos and ethics

New Delhi : All management business schools, excluding IIMs, will teach students Indian ethics and concepts, mentioned a revised curriculum for the master’s degree and postgraduate diplomas in business management.

Under the new curriculum, lessons from Kautilya’s Arthashastra, an ancient treatise on statecraft, economic policy and military strategy will be included.

The revisions have been made by AICTE in a bid to inject good values in future CEOs and CMDs.

The panel has made a course titled, “Indian ethos and business ethics” mandatory for the students. The new MBA curriculum will come to effect from this year and will also include the "gurukul" system of learning and karma, the ancient Hindu concept of cause and effect where intent and actions of an individual influence his or her future.

Management lessons from the Vedas, the Mahabharata, the Bible and the Quran will also be taught to the students. They say most of the scams in Indian businesses are a result of lack of moral scruples.

"The scandal of Satyam, NSEL crisis, Sahara fiasco, and increasing trend of wilful loan defaulters to banks, huge deposits made by a few business firms/ individuals during demonetisation exposes the weak foundations of ethics and values in Indian business scenarios," it says.
