Chhapaak Box Office Collections: Deepika Padukone's movie steady, earns Rs 26.53 crores
New Delhi : Deepika Padukone's latest release may not have got good Box Office earning figures from the day 1, but it has maintained a steady pace to mint Rs 26.53 crores.
Sharing the earnings on social media, Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, "#Chhapaak remains static on Day 6… Neither jumps, nor dips, despite partial holiday [#MakarSankranti festivities]… Fri 4.77 cr, Sat 6.90 cr, Sun 7.35 cr, Mon 2.35 cr, Tue 2.55 cr, Wed 2.61 cr. Total: ₹ 26.53 cr. #India biz. (sic)"
The audience for the movie got divided after Deepika Padukone appeared at a JNU protest against the assault by an armed mob in JNU. Soon after her pictures were seen on the social media, two keywords – one in her favour and one against her movie started trending on the social media.
To express his support for actress Deepika Padukone post her much-talked-about JNU visit, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Friday had organised a special screening of Chhapaak for party workers. As per an ANI report, a cinema hall in Lucknow had been booked for the same.
“We are also watching the film because our president Akhilesh Yadav has always been concerned about the problems of acid attack survivors. He (Mr Yadav) had set up the Sheroes Hangout cafe in Lucknow for acid attack survivors,” a senior party leader was quoted by news agency IANS.
The movie, however, witnessed good response from the critics who lauded the director's work and also praised brilliant acting skills of Deepika Padukone in the movie.
The film is based on a real-life acid attack survivor named Laxmi Agarwal who faced acid attack at the age of 15 in Delhi. Both Meghna and Deepika have maintained that the story of Chhapaak doesn’t portray acid attack survivors as weaker human beings rather it normalises their journey and reveals their unmatchable confidence and hope in life.
