New Delhi : Air Quality in Delhi has improved marginally in past couple of days and with that the ban on diesel-run commercial trucks has been lifted. This means the entry of commercial trucks will be allowed in the national capital.

However, the ban on BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel cars will continue. This may be lifted via an official order by the Delhi government on Monday after a review meeting.

Following the CAQM directive to lift restrictions on commercial trucks standing at the border of the national capital, the Delhi transport department will be holding a meeting today to discuss the further steps.

Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai will be chairing the meeting to review the air quality of the national capital in different parts.

The restrictions to ban BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel vehicles were announced by CAQM on November 3 after Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) touched 450, deep into the "severe" zone. Under the new Grap regime implemented from this year, CAQM categorises an AQI between 401 and 450 as "severe" and anything beyond 450 as "severe-plus".

The AQI on Sunday improved to 339 due to strong winds - from 381 on the previous day - which helped in further dispersion of pollutants. The air quality is likely to remain in the "very poor" category for the next few days.
