New Delhi : Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma has been appointed as the new Cental Bureau of Investigations (CBI) chief on Thursday. This comes as his 24th posting in 36-year-long career of a police officer.

Here are some facts we all must know about him and his new role:

1: Alok Kumar Verma will be serving as the director of CBI for 2 years from the date of appointment.

2: He is a 1979 batch officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.

3: He had started his career as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (under training) in Delhi Police in December 24, 1979.

4: He has also served as the Director General of Tihar prisons from August 2014 to February 2016 and the police chief of Mizoram between July 2012 and September 2013.

5: He has served as the Special Commissioner of Police in Intelligence, Vigilance and Administration departments of Delhi Police.
 
6: He has been selected for the post of CBI director from a list of 45 potential candidates for the job.

7: So far there is not a single controversy that has defamed his image a police officer.

8: He is due for retirement in July, but it is likely that government will give him an extension.
