New Delhi : Amritpal Singh, a radical preacher, was apprehended on Sunday morning in Rode village located in Punjab's Moga district. It has been learned that the police had surrounded him, leaving him with no means of escape.

Inspector General of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill announced at a news conference that Amritpal Singh will be taken to Dibrugarh in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA). He mentioned that NSA warrants had been issued against Amritpal Singh, and they were executed on the morning of the same day.

After evading authorities for over a month, Amritpal Singh was apprehended by the Punjab Police at approximately 6:45 am from Rode village.

According to Sukhchain Singh Gill, a joint operation between Amritsar Police and the intelligence wing of the Punjab Police was conducted. The police were able to locate Amritpal Singh in Rode village based on operational inputs. They surrounded the village from all sides, but did not enter the gurudwara where Amritpal was located in order to preserve its sanctity.

Amritpal Singh and his associates were charged with multiple criminal cases, including attempting to murder, attacking police personnel, spreading disharmony among different groups, and obstructing public servants from lawfully discharging their duties.

The drill against Amritpal Singh and his organization, 'Waris Punjab De,' began on March 18. However, Amritpal Singh managed to evade the police twice. The first instance occurred in Jalandhar district on March 18 when he switched vehicles, while the second time took place on March 28 in Hoshiarpur when he returned to Punjab with his key associate Papalpreet Singh.
