Mumbai : Mumbai Police on Tuesday detained an 18-year-old woman, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the Bulli Bai application, on which photos of several Muslim women were posted without their consent to conduct a virtual 'auction'.

Another 21-year-old engineering student was also arrested as the co-accused in the case.

Shweta has lost both her parents. Her father died of coronavirus last year and her mother passed due to cancer before him. She has an elder sister who is a commerce graduate, while her younger sister and brother are school students. She was preparing for engineering entrance examinations.

She is also accused of using a fake Twitter handle JattKhalsa07, which was used to hate posts and objectionable photos and comments.

Her name was revealed by Vishal Kumar who was arrested earlier in Bengaluru. He said he was in touch with the woman and claimed that she was in touch with the people who were working on the posts and activities on the Bulli Bai app.

It is also being probed whether the woman created the application or was helped by someone else. She will be brought to Mumbai today and could be produced in a magistrate's court today.
