Over 10,000 cases are likely to come in Delhi today: Government
New Delhi : Delhi is likely to report more than 10,000 coronavirus cases today, Health Minister Satyendar Jain told news agency ANI.
The positivity rate - the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests- is expected to surge to 10 per cent in the national capital, the Health Minister added.
"While it is the third wave for India, for Delhi it is the fifth wave," said the minister.
He issued an alert to the people and mentioned that the symptoms for omicron variant are mild but people must adhere to the COVID protocols.
40 per cent beds in private hospitals have been reserved to ensure that the health system of the national capital is not overwhelmed by the surge in cases, he said.
More than 90,000 coronavirus samples were tested on Tuesday. 300-400 samples were sent for genome sequencing as sending all samples is not possible.
The national capital had recorded 5,481 coronavirus cases and three related deaths yesterday as the government announced fresh curbs.
