Chandigarh University video leak case: Kharar court sends accused to 7-day police remand

Mohali : The Kharar Court on Monday sent three accused in Chandigarh University video leak case to seven days of police remand. The police had asked the court for 10-day police remand of Sunny Mehta, Rankaj Verma and the Chandigarh University girl student.

The mobile phones of the accused have been seized by the police. It is suspected that the video was made from the devices and also circulated on several social media platforms. Forensic analysis of the mobile devices will reveal many things in the case.

Meanwhile, hostel students were seen protesting in Mohali over the issue that objectionable videos have been shot at women washroom; and have been leaked on social media.

The university authorities, however, dismissed these allegations as "false and baseless".

According to a report, the Police has also assured that the student appeared to have shared a video of only herself with a 23-year-old "boyfriend" and no objectionable video of any other student was found.

The girl was arrested from the university and her boyfriend has been nabbed from Himachal on Sunday.

The protest ended on Monday after the authorities ensured student with a fair and transparent probe.

The university has announced “non-teaching days” till September 24, following which several students have returned to their homes. It also suspended two wardens for negligence.
