New Delhi : Four months after Centre said that pregnant and lactating women must not take coronavirus vaccine, the Health Ministry has changed its policy and said that the vaccination is recommended for all women.

Some other changes have been announced in the policy for vaccination.

The Centre has said that those who have recovered from coronavirus, must defer vaccine for three months; earlier it was 4-6 weeks.

The health officials have also informed that those who tested positive after the first dose of coronavirus vaccine should also defer the vaccination by three months after recovery.

“Individuals who have received at least the 1st dose and got Covid-19 infection before completion of the dosing schedule: the 2nd dose should be deferred by 3 months after clinical recovery from Covid-19 illness,” the Ministry said.

Those who have been given plasma during the treatment of coronavirus should also defer vacvination for at least three months.

The Ministry further recommended that any persons with “any other serious general illness” requiring hospitalisation or Intensive Care Unit care should also wait for 4-8 weeks before getting the Covid-19 vaccine.

The vaccination for lactating women has been started on the lines of the recommendation made by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC has said that Covid-19 vaccines are “thought not to be a risk to lactating people or their breastfeeding babies”.
