Kolkata couple thrashed in Metro premises for hugging, standing close

Kolkata : A couple was first harassed on the Kolkata Metro, pushed out and then thrashed by mob for allegedly hugging inside the train.

In an image taken from a mobile phone, a woman can be seen shielding the man with her body as people around them are physically abusing them.

The incident happened around 10 PM on Monday when people on the train objected the couple for standing too close to each other.

As soon as the train reached the Dum Dum metro station, the couple was pushed out by a group of middle-aged and elderly passengers.

According to a news report, the couple was beaten until some other passengers came to their rescue.

Photos of the incident were shared online and reached the office of Metro Rail. The officials say they are inspecting additional footage to establish what happened, the attackers and why no railway police intervened.

No official complaint has been filed in the matter yet.
