New Delhi : A much-awaited decision by many people residing in Delhi has been approved by the government; the liquor can now be delivered at doorstep via online booking. It has been clarified that the liquor home delivery by phone call is still not permitted.

According to the Delhi Excise (Amendment) Rules, 2021 published on Monday, anyone who holds the L-13 license for alcohol trade will be able to deliver liquor to the doorstep of Delhi residents.

“The licensee shall make delivery of liquor at the residences only if order is received through mobile app or online web portal and no delivery shall be made to any hostel, office, and institution,” the notification read.

For those with L-13 license, it is mandatory for them to register on the online portal or mobile applications. Unregistered liquor shops are not allowed to deliver the liquor at home.

List of Cities/States that Have Allowed Home Delivery of Liquor:

  • Delhi
  • Chhattisgarh
  • Pune (Maharashtra)
  • Karnataka
  • Punjab
  • Kolkata (West Bengal)
  • Odisha
  • Jharkhand
  • Kerala

The Supreme Court had last year said that home delivery of liquor must be an option to reduce crowd at the liquor shops. Since tax collected on alcohol makes up major chunk of revenue for the state, home delivery will reduce the economic strain on the government as well.
