Mumbai : More than 11,700 government employees who have allegedly secured government job with the help of fake caste certificates may be sacked in coming days.

A Times of India report said that the Maharashtra government is facing the task of dealing with the apex court’s direction and also keep the employees from breaking out in protests, in a move that could be the largest layoff of government employees in the state.

It has been learned that most of the employees under radar has been serving since last two decades. Getting promoted with time, many clerks have now grown up to deputy secretary in the state government.

Maharashtra government has been consulting with the law and judiciary department as well as the advocate general in the matter. However, both have been upholding the SC’s order stating that the SC order was unambiguous about dismissal being the punishment for beneficiaries of the fraud.

The Supreme Court had ruled in July 2017 that the employees who will be found guilty of using a fake certificate will face action irrespective of their tenure of service.
