Mumbai : It appears like the monsoon has arrived in Mumbai as heavy rains lashed the city on Tuesday night. Some rain was seen on Tuesday morning too but the MeT department called it pre-monsoon showers, stating that the southwest monsoon was likely to set in over Mumbai on Wednesday.

"Monsoon has arrived in Mumbai today, normal arrival date is 10th June every year so it has arrived prior to the average arrival date," Dr. Jayanta Sarkar, Deputy Director General (DDG), IMD Mumbai said.

The weather department had earlier warned of heavy rains in several parts of Maharashtra from June 9 to June 12. Meanwhile, the BMC has called for an emergency meeting to discuss preparedness as waterlogging has been reported in many parts of the state.

Amid heavy rainfall, traffic jams were also reported in several parts of the city.

Railway tracks were found to be submerged between Sion railway station and GTB Nagar railway station due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai. The Local train services between Kurla and CSMT have been halted, as a precautionary measure; the services will be resumed as soon as the water recedes in the region.
