India registers around 49,000 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours

New Delhi : India on Saturday reported 48,916 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours, taking the total number of case tally to 13,36,861, as shown in government data. The country also witnessed 757 virus-related deaths during the period, according to the data released by the Health Ministry.

With this the total number of fatalities in India has reached 31,358, making the country sixth worst nation in the tally. The country is behind the US, Brazil, Britain, Mexico and Italy.

The recovery rate stands at 63.53 per cent and positivity rate is 11.62 per cent.

This is the third consecutive day when COVID-19 cases increased by more than 45,000.

India's COVID-19 tally took 177 days to reach the 13-lakh mark. The number of coronavirus cases in India have doubled in nearly three weeks since July 2 when the country crossed the six lakh-mark. The country's Covid tally touched the 10 lakh-mark last Friday. Since then, around three lakh new infections have been reported.
