India registers over 45,000 new coronavirus cases on single day

New Delhi : Coronavirus cases have paced up in India with the country marking another biggest single day spike in the number of new cases at 45,000. The total number of coronavirus cases have crossed the 12 lakh mark and now are at 12,38,635. Nearly 7,86,000 people have recovered from the Covid-19 infection till date. The recovery rate is 63.18 per cent and positivity rate is 13.03 per cent.

In terms of fatalities, around 28,000 people have lost their lives to the coronavirus.

The highest number of samples were tested on Wednesday, with 3,50,823 samples collected. The total samples tested till now is over 1.5 crore, government data shows.

Talking about the states, Maharashtra still leads the tally, followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi. Maharashtra has been grappling with a shortage of life saving drugs like Remdesivir and Tocilizumab.

The five states that reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours are: Maharashtra (10,576), Andhra Pradesh (6,045), Tamil Nadu (5,849), Karnataka (4,764) and Uttar Pradesh (2,300).

The five states that reported the highest deaths in the last 24 hours are: Tamil Nadu (518), Maharashtra (280), Andhra Pradesh (65), Karnataka (55) and West Bengal (39).

Meanwhile, several states have called for a complete lockdown for one more time after registering spike in the number of cases.
