It is not global warming, it is a global warning: Chetan Singh Solanki (Solar Man of India)

New Delhi : The Energy Swaraj Foundation in association with Press Club of India has organized a workshop to sensitize journalist who are writing in the field of energy, environment, climate change. The workshop was taken by Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki

who is popularly known as Solar Man of India and Solar Gandhi emphasizes that “It is not global warming, it is a global warning”.The big question to everyone is “ARE we taking enough actions?. The obvious answer is a big NO.

People from all walks of life including journalists are not fully aware about the issues related to climate change. There are many misconception about the current status of climate change, why the climate has changed, who has caused the climate change and what solutions are required to tackle climate change.

The workshop started with welcome note by Mr V S Chaturvedi Sr Journalist Press Club of India.

Prof. Solanki outlined the current status of climate change in terms of increased intensity and frequency of extreme whether events like floods, droughts, forest fires, sea level rise. He also mentioned that 99% people are not aware about severity of climate change and therefore not taking appropriate actions to mitigate climate change.

Prof. Solanki then stressed on the point Why climate has change and who has changed the climate? He has stressed on the point that everyone is user of energy and therefore everyone is responsible for emitting CO2. He stressed the climate change is not caused by government or industries, but every user of energy. In today’s world everyone, including rich or poor are user of energy.

Prof. Solanki explained that why switching to 100% solar energy is not our choice but it is compulsion of humans, if they want to survive on the planet. Solar energy is anyway at the centre of our existence and switching back and running our lives 100% is the best way to live on the planet. But before switching to solar energy we must follow two fundamental laws. These are Prof. Solanki’s laws of human existence. “Limiting Consumption” and “Localizing Production” are important for sustainability and human existence. Prof. Solanki mentioned that no amount of scientific and technological development can help humans to sustain without following these laws.

The workshop ended with question and answer session. Mr Vinay Kumar, General Secretary PCI and Former Associate Editor Hindu presented the vote of thanks and underlined the need to switch to Solar Energy for humanity.
