'Justice has prevailed': PM Narendra Modi on Delhi gangrape convicts execution

New Delhi : The four Delhi gangrape convicts were hanged to death after Supreme Court rejected their midnight appeal. Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Mukesh Singh and Pawan were found guilty of raping and murdering a 23-year-old woman in Delhi in a running bus in south Delhi in the year 2012.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his reaction and said it is of utmost importance to ensure dignity and safety of women.

All four convicts were hanged at 5:30 AM in Tihar Jail of Friday morning, seven years after they committed heinous crime. The woman was thrown on the road naked and later succumbed to her internal injuries at the hospital.

There were six men who had committed the crime but one man committed suicide while the other was found juvenile and was released after he spent three years in a reform house.

The men accused in the matter were arrested within a year and the death sentence was awarded to them by the Supreme Court in 2017; but due to legal options their execution was delayed for so long.
