New Delhi : Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday evening announced excise duty cut on petrol, diesel and LPG gas prices. Rs 200 per LPG cylinder has been reduced for those who come under Ujjwala scheme.

She made two big announcements on Saturday; first one was reducing the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 and Rs 6 per liter, after which the price of petrol and diesel will come down by Rs 9.5 per liter and Rs 7 per liter respectively. The finance minister also said that the new prices will be allowed for up to 12 cylinders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted the news of providing subsidy on LPG cylinders. He once again claimed his government is committed for 'people first' approach.

"Today’s decisions, especially the one relating to a significant drop in petrol and diesel prices will positively impact various sectors, provide relief to our citizens and further Ease of Living," PM Modi's tweet read.
