Ministry of Defence website hacked by Chinese hackers, shows Chinese character on Homepage

New Delhi : Ministry of Defence official website - mod.gov.in - got hacked on Friday with Chinese character appearing on its main page. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Twitter with an assurance that appropriate action has been initiated in the matter.
She also mentioned that steps will be taken to ensure such incidents don't repeat in future. During the time when website was hacked an error massage was being displayed with a Chinese character, asking users to try again later.

The displayed Chinese character means home.

"We are seized of the matter. The National Informatics Centre, which maintains the website, is trying to restore it," a ministry spokesperson said.
An official said Chinese hackers may be involved in defacing the website, reported PTI.
