Mumbai : Maharashtra government's latest decision to allow commuters board local trains from February 1 onwards has come as a big relief for daily commuters who were dependent on trains.

Earlier, a certain section of people were allowed to board the local trains. But, the government has now given green signal to open the operations for general public as well.

Now, it will be a decision of Western Railways on how and when they want to implement the new rules.

The local train services were suspended on March 23, 2020 when India had gone under a lockdown to stop spread of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has extended the coronavirus-induced lockdown restrictions in the state till February 28.
