New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the National Education Policy (NEP) is focused on making children skilled and not just the degree holders.

After inaugurating a three-day Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam on implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in Varanasi, PM Modi said that with NEP they want each and every children to be skilled as per his or her talent.

"Our youth should be skilled, confident, practical and calculative, education policy is preparing the ground for this," he said.

PM Narendra Modi also claimed that India has shown its mettle even during the hard time of coronavirus pandemic; the nation is among the fastest growing economies in the world and it was the third largest start-up ecosystem in the world.

He said that the education system which was created by Britishers was not in accordance to Indian ethos, the NEP is bringing the ethos, which is to take education out of narrow thinking and connect it with the modern ideas of the 21st century.

PM Modi said that the NEP was launched two years ago and even today his team is working diligently to properly implement it.

The NEP had opened up ways for pursuing education in the mother tongue. Ancient Indian languages like Sanskrit were also being carried forward, he said.
