New Delhi : It has been a demand for long time to remove mandatory mask rule inside private cars, the Delhi authorities have finally removed the guidelines and people inside a private car will not be fined for not wearing the masks. The new order will come to effect from February 28 onwards.

Meanwhile, people are still required to wear masks in public places, but the fine has been reduced to Rs 500 from Rs 2000.

The new order has been issued after a review meeting done on the current COVID situation.

Earlier this month, the authorities had removed mandatory mask guideline on single person driving a private four wheeler. The Delhi High Court had called the mandatory mask for single person guideline an absurd one.

On Friday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced an end to Covid restrictions in the capital: "DDMA withdraws all restrictions as situation improves and people facing hardships due to loss of jobs. Schools to function fully offline from 1 April. Fines for not wearing masks reduced to Rs 500. All should continue following Covid appropriate behaviour. Government will keep strict watch."
