No role to play in Maharashtra Politics at the moment: BJP

Mumbai : The Bharatiya Janata Party has now taken a back seat to see what's happening in the front after Maharashtra Governor refused to extend more time to Shiv Sena for claiming support from Congress and NCP, inviting the latter to form the government in the state.

On the last day for Shiv Sena to stake claim to form the government, BJP leaders gathered at the official residence of caretaker Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The leaders also discussed the possibilities of political game that could lead to joining hands of Shiv Sena with Congress and NCP, the parties with a complete different ideology. In case, this happens then what would be Bharatiya Janata Party's idea to become a strong opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly.

BJP cancelled its scheduled media interaction after it became clear that it will not be Shiv Sena who will be forming the government in the state.

“Frankly speaking, we have no role to play at this moment. We have made it clear that BJP cannot form the government. Our stand from the very beginning was to honour the pre-poll pact Mahauti for which we sought the mandate from the people. After Sena’s adamant stand to distance from BJP, the option of Mahauti government came to a standstill,” said a top BJP source.

What happens if NCP fails too?

In case, the invited NCP also fails in showing the support of MLAs to form the government in the state then a President rule will be imposed in the state for six months. And there will be mid-term elections to find the new leadership.
