New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation at 9 AM on Friday, announcing that the controversial three farm bills will be repealed in the coming winter session of the Parliament. The move comes nearly 14 months after farmers came on the road to protest the new farm laws.

During his address, PM asked protesting farmers to return home and celebrate Gurpurab with their families. He also asked to start afresh and move ahead for a bright future.

The decision becomes crucial as the move comes days ahead Uttar Pradesh will be going for polls and by taking the three laws back, BJP will be trying to win the hearts of the farmers.

Meanwhile, PM Modi blamed his policymakers and said they lacked somewhere that they could not convey the idea of governments to the farmers.

"Maybe something was lacking in our tapasya, which is why we could not convince some farmers about the laws. But today is Prakash Parv, not the time to blame anyone. Today, I want to tell the country that we have decided to repeal the three farm laws," PM Modi said in an address to the nation.

"Whatever I did was for farmers. What I am doing is for the country."

Thousands of farmers have been sitting on the borders of Delhi, demanding cancellation of three farm laws.

"We haven't been able to convince farmers. Only a section of them was opposing the laws, but we kept trying to educate and inform them," PM Modi said.
