New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a meeting with the Chief Ministers of different states and said it is not a time to panic, but remain cautious over the current situation of spreading omicron variant of coronavirus.

"Omicron is spreading in many countries including ours. While fighting this variant, we must be prepared for the next strain. The biggest weapon against Covid is vaccination. Ninety-two per cent adult population in the country has been given the first dose of vaccine. The rumors on vaccines need to be countered," PM Modi said.

India on Thursday recorded more than 2.5 lakh coronavirus cases, PM Modi said, "It is very important to safeguard the economy and livelihood of common people while framing Covid strategies. The focus must be on local containment. We have to be cautious but there's no need to panic. We now have an experience of two years in the fight against Covid."

PM Modi also mentioned that many patients can be treated via home isolation, but it should be made sure that proper home isolation guidelines are being followed.

The coronavirus cases in India have increased from 10,000 per day to 2.5 lakh per day in a matter of two weeks.
