New Delhi : Amid outrage in the nation over how Hathras rape victim's body was cremated by UP Police, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi will be meeting the girl's family on Thursday.

The 20-year-old girl was brutally gangraped by four men of her own village. Her tongue was chopped off and she had suffered several physical injuries during the assault. Two weeks after the incident she lost her life in Delhi. To add to the vows, her body was cremated by the police officials in the absence of her family members.

The woman was cremated at 2.30 am with only a few policemen around and no family member. The UP police's rush to cremate the body was seen to be a desperate attempt to cover-up what has been a string of lapses in the case.

The family has alleged that the action from police in the matter was too slow and the administration is not helping them because they belong to a lower cast.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said: "All this is a shameful move of the UP government to suppress the Dalits and show them their ''place'' in the society. Our fight is against this hateful thinking." Rahul Gandhi was an MP from Uttar Pradesh for three terms until he lost in his family stronghold Amethi last year.

Meanwhile, another woman in Balrampur has been raped in a similar manner. Unfortunately, she also lost her life.
