New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party has registered a landslide historic win in Uttar Pradesh, allowing Yogi Adityanath to continue as the Chief Minister of the state.

With this, he has become the first CM of Uttar Pradesh who has returned to power after completing a successful five-year term. There have been CMs who returned to power again, but none was in power for the complete five years.

There were four Chief Ministers who won consecutive terms in Uttar Pradesh. Their names are Narayan Dutt Tiwari (1985), Sampoornananda (1957), Chandrabhanu Gupta (1962) and Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna (1974).

It must be noted that Yogi Adityanath has also become the first CM from Bharatiya Janata Party to retain a consecutive term in Uttar Pradesh. 

Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati are among the CMs who had completed their five year term in the state, but they did not return to power.
