New Delhi : The coronavirus cases are rapidly increasing in the national capital as Delhi reported 733 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday with the positivity rate of 19.93%. Currently, Delhi has 2331 active cases; out of them 91 patients are admitted to the hospitals and 1491 patients are getting their treatment at their home.

The increase in coronavirus cases can be estimated from the number that on Thursday Delhi had recorded as 606 cases and on Friday it increased to 733 cases.

This is the highest number of coronavirus cases registered in last 7 months. On August 26, the national capital had recorded 620 cases.

The positivity rate in the national capital was highest in 15 months at 26.54% on Wednesday.

As the number of cases are increasing in the national capital, the experts believe that the virus' new XBB.1.16 variant is the reason behind this sudden surge.

The authorities have claimed that there is no need to panic in this situation and people should get their vaccine booster shots as soon as possible. They also noted that the increase in the number of cases could be due to people getting tested for COVID as a precaution when they become infected with the influence of virus and develop even and other symptoms.
